Continuing the rollout of e-Invoicing with public administrations in Germany, another state’s mandate for its suppliers entered into force on 18.4.2024.

Suppliers to the state of Hessen are now required to issue their invoices electronically. The option to use e-Invoicing has been available for 4 years already since 18.4.2020. All e-Invoices can be submitted as an E-Mail with attachment addressed to e-rechung@ekrw.hessen.de.

Starting with the mandate, an additional “upload” functionality is published on the central portal of the Hessian State administration. Peppol-based machine-to-machine communication is not yet available but in active implementation to be released in 2024.

This brings the number of states with e-Invoicing mandates from 5 to 6 out of the 16 Länder in the Federal Republic. The next, and currently last, scheduled mandate will take effect on 1.4.2025 in Rheinland-Pfalz, leaving e-Invoicing optional in the 9 remaining states.
